Not long before age 3, Cory Bond was diagnosed with autism. A short time later, he began expressing himself through art.
“Cory began drawing with sidewalk chalk at the age of three. Art is everything to him,” said his mother Lisa. “It is as important to him as breathing.”

The 2012 Rockcastle County High School graduate took his passion a step farther when he enrolled in Somerset Community College Drawing I course and found a love for painting while enrolled in the Painting I class. He continues to study art at SCC, where during April – National Autism Awareness Month – more than 60 pieces of his work will be featured in an exhibit titled “My Imagination.”
The Somerset Community College East End Gallery, in collaboration with the SCC Student Government Association, will host the exhibit April 1-30. A reception will be held in the gallery, which is located in SCC’s Stoner Hall, 808 Monticello St., Somerset, on Thursday, April 9 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.
Bond, whose works have been displayed at the Rockcastle County Public Library and Rockcastle Regional Hospital, hopes that there is sufficient interest in his artwork to result in a career. His work was featured in a previous exhibit at SCC called “Cory’s World.” View more at corybondartwork.com.
