Organizers and corporate sponsors of the Bluegrass-Buckeye Charity Classic boys high school basketball games presented a $40,000 check to three local charities on Monday between the semifinal games of the 9th Region Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center.
The money was raised through corporate sponsorships and proceeds from three games played on Jan. 18. It’s the largest single donation in the history of the classic that started in 2001. This year’s donation will be shared by the Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund, Neediest Kids of All and Chicks & Chucks, a breast cancer support group.
The major sponsors for this year’s classic were Mercedes-Benz of Fort Mitchell and Griffin Elite Sports & Wellness in Erlanger. Other participating sponsors were Griffin Industries, The Enquirer, Bilz Insurance and Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Since its inception in 2001, the classic has donated more than $183,000 to local charities. For more information, go to the http://bbclassic.org website.
