Bridge project on I-275 Cropper Bridge will start May 4; traffic reduced to one lane each direction

A bridge restoration project on the Interstate 275 Carroll Cropper Bridge that crosses over the Ohio River into Indiana will start Monday, May 4. Traffic on the bridge will be restricted to one lane in each direction to allow work to be completed safely.

“This is a routine maintenance project, but will have significant impacts to traffic using the I-275 corridor between Kentucky and Indiana.” said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington. “A new concrete bridge deck overlay will be placed on the Carroll Cropper Bridge and, for added safety, roadway lighting will be installed.”

Hall Contracting of Kentucky, Inc, of Louisville, was awarded the contract on a low-bid of $6.7 million.

Beginning, May 4, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Beginning sometime in late June or early July, the I-275 westbound bridge will be closed. Westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound side — restricting traffic to one lane in each direction. When work is completed on the westbound bridge, traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes to allow for work on the eastbound bridge.

Traffic will be impacted. Motorists should plan accordingly by allowing extra travel time or finding an alternate route. The lane restrictions will remain until work is complete, which is expected to be November 2015.
