Three Thomas More College student-athletes and a head coach were recently honored at the 2015 Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association Awards Banquet held at the Cintas Center on the campus of Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Junior Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.) was named the College Sportswomen of the Year for basketball and was the College Division Sportswomen of the Year. She helped her team post the only undefeated (33-0) record in college basketball, men’s or women’s, and win the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Championship.
For the second-year in a row, Moss was named the Division III National Player of the Year and first team All-American by all three organizations that honor Division III women’s basketball players.
During the NCAA postseason, Moss broke the NCAA all-division women’s or men’s tournament scoring record as she scored 197 points in the Saints’ six NCAA tournament games.
Senior Kelsey Catiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) was named the College Sportswomen of the Year for volleyball. She helped lead the Saints to a 30-5 record, including a 16-2 mark in the President’ Athletic Conference (PAC) and won a share of the PAC regular season title and won the PAC Championship Tournament.
The Saints advanced to the program’s 13th NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, where they advanced to the second round. Castiglioni was named honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). She was also named the PAC Player of the Year as she led the PAC in digs per set (5.77) and was second in total digs with 652.
Junior Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) was named the College Sportswomen of the Year for soccer/basketball. She helped lead the soccer team to a 23-2 record, while advancing to their first-ever NCAA Division III sectional finals and helped lead the basketball team to a perfect 33-0 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship.
On the soccer pitch, Huber was named the PAC Player of the Year and was named an All-American by the internet website, D3soccer.com and the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA). Huber led all of Division III in scoring with 89 points and 36 goals, while her 17 assists ranked fourth nationally. She owns the school record for career goals (74), career points (178), single-season goals (36), single-season assists (17) and single-season points (89).
On the basketball court, Huber was second on the team in steals with 66, while she averaged 5.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to go with 55 assists and five blocks.
Head women’s soccer coach Jeff Cummings was named the College Coach of the Year after leading the Saints to a 23-2 record, including a 9-0 mark in the PAC as it won the PAC regular season and championship tournament.
The team advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III sectional final and ended the season ranked No. 7 in the D3soccer.com Top-25. Thomas More set six school this past season as it set the school record for wins (23), longest winning streak (15), goals (104), assists (83), shutouts (21) and consecutive shutouts (13).
The Thomas More women’s basketball team was recognized at the banquet for winning the College’s first-ever team national championship. The Saints posted the only undefeated season in all of four-year College basketball, men’s or women’s, this past season as they posted a 33-0 record. They capped the undefeated season with a 20-point win in the NCAA Division III National Championship game against George Fox University in Holland, Michigan.
