Notre Dame and Covington Catholic will play in the girls’ and boys’ championship finals of the state team tennis tournament on Friday evening at the Boone/Dowling Tennis Complex on the University of Kentucky campus.

The Notre Dame girls’ team will play McCracken County at 5 p.m. and the Covington Catholic boys’ team will play four-time defending state champion Louisville St. Xavier at 6:30 p.m.
In team tennis, opponents compete in three singles and two doubles matches. One point is awarded to the winner of each match and the first team to get three points is declared the winner.
In the boys’ semifinal round on Thursday, CovCath defeated Ashland Blazer to advance to the championship match for the first time. Notre Dame, the girls’ state runner-up in 2012, defeated Russell on Thursday to make it back to the final.
Several local tennis players advanced to the round of 16 in the singles and doubles state tournaments by winning two matches on Thursday. Matches were scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. Friday with results posted on the khsaa.org/sports/spring/tennis/ web page.
