Physical therapist at HealthSouth NKy honored as finalist in companywide award

Back in high school at Villa Madonna Academy, Kelly Roberts’ dedication to basketball helped her achieve high honors such as the all-time leading scorer in rebounds and having her jersey – No. 33 – retired.

The values, dedication and teamwork that she learned from those days on the court have transferred over to her profession as a physical therapy lead at HealthSouth Northern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital. She continues to lead and score big points with her patients and colleagues which have put her in the spotlight as a recipient of HealthSouth’s companywide Outstanding Employee Achievement Awards.

Roberts, one of only six finalists out of more than 24,000 HealthSouth employees, received this annual recognition and was honored at an award banquet held yesterday in Birmingham, Alabama. Award winners are selected based on their performance in four areas: contributions to extraordinary patient experience, team spirit and cooperation, commitment to continuous quality improvement and going above and beyond the call of duty.

The process began with each of the 107 hospitals honoring a hospital employee of the year. Then, six finalists were named at the regional level; and one overall recipient was named for the company.

“Kelly is one of the biggest advocates for the services HealthSouth Northern Kentucky provides and the patient lives those services change,” said Richard Evens, CEO at HealthSouth Northern Kentucky. “She shows much dedication and compassion in her work as a physical therapy lead, and the patients and employees at our hospital are grateful to have her in their lives.”

Her responsibilities as a physical therapist include helping patients who are recovering from major illnesses and injuries such as stroke and other neurological disorders, cardiac and pulmonary conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, complex orthopedic conditions, and amputations reach goals and reclaim their independence. She serves on many hospital committees in addition to her day-to-day duties to improve employee morale and increase patient satisfaction and outcomes.
