
The fourth-seeded Thomas More College softball team fell 4-0 to No. 1-seed and fifth-ranked Trine University Sunday in a suspended elimination game of NCAA Division III Softball Championship Greencastle, Indiana Regional played at DePauw Tiger Field.
With the loss, the Saints end the season at 27-17 while the Thunder improve to 39-4 and advance to play second-seeded DePauw.
Trine scored all four runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game was suspended due to darkness Saturday night in the top of the fifth inning.
Junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) suffered the loss despite a solid performance in the circle as she pitched six innings giving up four runs (all unearned on five hits and struck out three.
At the plate, Salzer, freshman right fielder Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) and senior center fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) each had a hit for the Saints.
Salzer and freshman left fielder Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) were named the Greencastle Regional All-Tournament team.
