The Lents Branch Relocation Project is underway.
In 2005, realizing that eventually the Lents Branch in Hebron would not be able to keep up with the needs of a growing population, the Library’s Board of Trustees purchased land on Route 237 in Hebron. In 2011, a civil engineering company was hired to conduct a land use study for the property, which included two public workshops and meetings with the Library Board and local public officials.
The general consensus was that a community gathering place was needed in that area of the county with more green space and an outdoor learning area. You told us what you would like, we listened, and we are moving ahead with plans for the new facility.
Rather than spend money now on costly repairs and upgrades to the existing Lents Branch, we are closing it on September 1, 2015. The money saved will be put toward the cost of the new building. The books and materials from the Lents Branch will be added to the collections at our other locations and the staff will be reassigned to comparable level positions throughout the Library system.
Reflective of how people use libraries today, the new building will be light-filled and innovative media rich. It will be designed for change, to adapt as technology and community needs shift in the future. Space will be flexible. The new building will have features unique to Boone County that will be an asset to the community and can be used by everyone in the county.
Rest assured, Boone County Public Library will not incur debt while building. The Library has a Capital Projects Fund to build and make major repairs and the new facility will be paid for, in full, from this fund.
