The Scott baseball team won the first state playoff game in the history of the program Tuesday night with a 4-1 victory over Knott County Central at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
Andrew Trame drove in the first run and pitched seven strong innings for the Eagles (23-11), who will play South Warren (32-6) in a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Trame, the son of Scott’s head coach, allowed one run on four hits and had seven strikeouts in the victory. Knott County Central’s only run came on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Scott took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Noah Back led off with a walk and then scored on a double by Trame. The Eagles other three runs came on clutch hits with two outs in the third, fourth and seventh innings. A double by Jake Ohmer and a triple by Brenton Hughes made it 2-0 in the top of the third. Ohmer and Jake Pusateri delievered run-scoring singles in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Eagles made thier first appearance in the state playoffs as the 10th Region champions last year, but they lost in the first round. This season, they won the regional title and returned to the state tournament with seven first-year starters in the lineup.
