COV200, the Center for Great Neighborhoods, and the Friends of Peaselburg Neighborhood Association are celebrating Covington’s Bicentennial with a special rendition of the traditional Fourth of July parade. For the past several decades, the Peaselburg neighborhood has hosted a parade to honor the nation’s independence, and this year the festivities and route will be expanded to include a celebration of Covington’s Bicentennial.

Highlights of the parade will include the unveiling of the 1924 Stewart Iron Works truck, which will be pulled on a flatbed by a current Stewart Iron Works truck, as well as floats from several neighborhood associations. Also during the parade, COV200 Ambassadors will be handing out special bicentennial wooden nickels to children along the route. These nickels can be redeemed for a free ride on the Ferris wheel or fun slide at the BB&T Summer Celebration, happening July 9-14.

The Covington Neighborhoods’ Bicentennial Independence Day Parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. The route goes down Euclid to 16th Street and back up Russell for an after party at St. Augustine. At the after party prizes will be awarded for the Best Decorated Neighborhood Association Float, Best Youth Decorated Bicycle, and Best Dressed as an Important Covingtonian.
