Keeping cool as temperatures soar. Many of us take this for granted but not everyone in our area has this option in their home.
As the summer heat arrives, Duke Energy and United Way of Greater Cincinnati are partnering to bring welcome relief to those in need. Duke Energy is providing a $25,000 grant to buy fans for area older adults, low-income residents and people with disabilities. United Way will administer the program, distributing funds to non-profit agencies that serve the needs of those populations.
“Duke Energy is proud to help those in need of assistance in cooling their homes during the hot summer months,” said Jim Henning, president Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky. “United Way of Greater Cincinnati is in touch with people who need the help and can quickly get fans to them as summer temperatures become unbearable.”
By dialing 2-1-1 for fan distribution resources, individuals can reach United Way 211, United Way’s 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week health and social services information and referral helpline.
“Duke Energy’s generosity to help meet this critical need – as well as its endorsement of the Bold Goals for Our Region and its ongoing spot in our list of Top 25 donating companies – demonstrates its commitment to helping achieve the goals in Education, Income and Health by 2020,” said Rob Reifsnyder, United Way president. “This donation supports our efforts to ensure that all in our community have good health – the key to maintaining financial stability, and, later in life, independence. Education, income and health – It’s all interconnected.”
Fans will be available in Duke Energy’s service territory of Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
