Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer head coach John Basalyga announced that former NKU standout Tony Capurro will join the program’s coaching staff.
“The fact that he is a former NKU player will be very beneficial for us,” Basalyga said. “He knows me, he knows the staff and he knows our system. Tony will be a tremendous help on and off the field and a great fit for our program.”
Playing for the Norse from 2004-2007, Capurro was a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America selection (2007 first team, 2006 second team) and three-time NSCAA All-Region selection (2005, 2006, 2007). Additionally, Capurro was a three-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection (2005, 2006, 2007).
Capurro finished his NKU career with a total of 15 goals, 15 assists and 45 points. His 83 starts for the Norse ranks fifth all-time in program history.
“I can’t wait to get started and begin working with the players,” Capurro said. “I am really excited to see where this program is headed in the future.”
Following his playing days, Capurro worked as a student-assistant for NKU until completing a degree in art from the university in 2009. After completing his degree, Capurro was hired in 2010 as an assistant high school coach at Cincinnati Country Day.
In 2011, Capurro became boys head coach at Princeton High School in Cincinnati, a position he held until 2014. Recently, Capurro has been coaching with the Kings Hammer Soccer Club in Wilder, Kentucky.
