NKy Women’s Initiative hosts both lieutenant governor candidates for breakfast event Aug. 5


The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Women’s Initiative will host the Democratic and Republican candidates for lieutenant governor to speak about their experiences as women in politics on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Rep. Sannie Overly is a practicing attorney from Paris. She was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2008 and serves the 72nd legislative district. After her election to office, she was elected as the first female chair of the House Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation in 2009 and the first female House Majority Caucus chair in 2013.

Jenean Hampton has used her leadership experience in the public and private sector to engage actively in political and civic organizations in Bowling Green where she lives. These include the American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, and the Bowling Green Women’s Club. Hampton served as an officer for the United States Air Force before beginning a 19-year career in the corrugated packaging industry.

At the breakfast event, titled “Women in Politics: Perspectives from Candidates for Lieutenant Governor,” Overly and Hampton will share stories about how they came to be involved in politics, details about their experiences campaigning for and holding office, and insights about the critical issues present in the 2015 Kentucky Gubernatorial race. The event will be held at The Pinnacle, located in The Grand, 6 E. Fifth Street in Covington, from 8 to 10 a.m.

The Northern Kentucky Chamber Women’s Initiative, established in 2008, is an organization for women of all career stages to connect, grow and achieve for business and professional success.
