CornBelters throttle Freedom offense, use big six-run fourth inning to catapult to easy win


The Florence Freedom fell to the Normal CornBelters by a score of 9-1 Thursday night.

Florence starter Tony Vocca (3-2) tossed four innings and allowed six runs to pick up his second loss of the season. Vocca worked three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fourth, allowing six runs to cross the plate.

Florence scored its only run of the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth. Frazier Hall led off with a walk and moved to second a Sam Eberle walk. Hall stole third to put himself 90 feet away from scoring. Ozzy Gonzalez drove Hall home on a sacrifice fly. Florence trailed 6-1 after four frames.

The Freedom bullpen was called upon to pitch five innings. Austin Delmotte was very effective in his three innings on the bump, fanning four while not allowing a run. Pete Levitt allowed three runs to cross in his inning of work. Ed Kohout struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning.

The Freedom hit the road Friday night to take on the Joliet Slammers. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. with Patrick McGrath (0-1, 1.86 ERA) on the hill. Fans can tune in at http://mixlr.com/florencefreedom/.
