Come join in the fun as the Covington Bike-Centennial Tour rolls through the streets of Covington to showcase the history and diversity of Covington’s neighborhoods.
The Bike-Centennial Tour ride will take place on Saturday, August 8th. Depending on the route selected (there are three options: a 10-mile, a 5-mile and a 2-mile route*), the ride will depart from the Covington Farmers Market at East 3rd Street and Greenup Street every ten minutes between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Renaissance Covington, the Center for Great Neighborhoods, Roebling Point Books & Coffee, Reser Bicycle Outfitters and the City of Covington are all partnering to produce the Bike-Centennial Tour. The Bike-Centennial Tour was originally coordinated with the BB&T Summer Celebration but was canceled due to weather.
The cost to participate is only $5.00 for adults and free for participants under 18. Event t-shirts are available for pre-order ($10 for adults, free for children). BRIDGES, Inc. will be giving away helmets to the first 100 attendees on Saturday morning – a helmet is required to ride.
Pre-registration is open at www.bikereg.com. On-site registration will be available but will cost $10 for adults. Riders can also choose to use a one-day ($8) pass for Red Bike now that the Covington stations are open if they choose.
* The 10-mile ride will travel south to Latonia, stopping to see the Historic Licking Riverside neighborhood, the Licking River Greenway, Meinken Field renovations, Latonia Elementary, the BMX site at Bill Cappel Sports Complex, the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, Hellman Lumber, Goebel Park, and historic downtown Covington. There is also a 5-mile loop for intermediate or beginner riders and a 2-mile loop for beginner or young riders. The 5-mile ride leaves at 9:40 and the 2-mile ride leaves at 9:50.
