COV200, the volunteer group behind Covington’s bicentennial celebration, seeks community input for the design and contents of Covington’s bicentennial time capsule.
The group is partnering with local maker Steven Sander to create a memorable time capsule constructed of local, Covington-inspired material. Sanders has developed three time capsule designs inspired by Covington materials to be voted on by the community. Each design has a unique look and can be voted on at www.Cov200.org.

In addition to choosing the design of the time capsule, COV200 is seeking the community’s input as to what should be placed within the time capsule. City-wide participation is encouraged to determine what is special about Covington in the year 2015 that should be shared with Covingtonians 100 years from now.
Residents, business owners, and friends of Covington are encouraged to think about what should be showcased with regards to Covington pop culture, architecture, current events, local awards, community leaders, community projects, and more. All items placed within the time capsule need to be connected to the year 2015 in some way.

Surveys for the bicentennial time capsule can be found online at http://www.cov200.org/bicentennial-time-capsule or at the Covington branch of the Kenton County Public Library. Individuals interested in hosting time capsule surveys at their organization, church, business, neighborhood event, etc. are encouraged to contact Kate Esarey by emailing kate@greatneighborhoods.org or calling (859) 547-5552.
Upon completion of the time capsule, COV200 plans on installing the capsule in a glass case for public viewing. It will remain secure and unopened until Covington’s 300th birthday in 2115.

The Covington Time Capsule project is one of eight Creative Community Grant awards received from The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington in July for artists and creatives who proposed unique projects for Covington’s Bicentennial. The projects are all unique in that they use a variety of art forms – from visual art to music, photography to fashion design – to celebrate the community’s bicentennial. These funds are available thanks to a multi-year grant that The Center received from The Kresge Foundation to implement creative placemaking activities in Covington.
Questions about the Bicentennial Time Capsule can be directed to Kate Esarey at kate@greatneighborhoods.org.
