Northern Kentucky University has named Leslie Peter Kachurek as its new Chief of Police.
Kachurek has 25 years’ experience in campus and community policing in New York State. He is currently police chief and deputy Title IX coordinator at SUNY Alfred State College in Alfred, New York. He will begin at NKU next week.
“We conducted a national search to find the right person who could build upon the success of our outstanding police department,” said Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Sue Hodges Moore. “When we met Les, we knew we had found that person.”
Kachurek holds three master’s degrees – a Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Organizational Management, and Master of Science in Criminal Justice – as well as Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and for 10 years taught criminal justice courses at Niagara County Community College.
He will oversee all police department activities, operations and services at Northern Kentucky University, including: law enforcement, crime suppression and prevention, investigations, facility security, emergency preparedness, emergency dispatch, and administrative support services.

The NKU Police Department includes 18 sworn officers and six civilian employees. Officers patrol the campus and its facilities 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The department also operates an emergency communications/dispatch center 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The NKU Police Department is accredited through the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police.
Kachurek, 51, is a native of Niagara Falls and an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds. He and his wife, Kathleen, plan to live in the Fort Thomas area.
