Reds’ broadcaster Welsh among the participants in the Roast of Pete Rose on Sept. 3


The first four ‘Roasters’ for ‘The Roast of Pete Rose’ being held on Thursday, Sept. 3 at UC Health Stadium have been announced by the Florence Freedom.

Chris Welsh of the Cincinnati Reds broadcast team, Mo Egger of ESPN 1530 and 700 WLW, Andy Furman of Fox Sports Radio and former World Series champion pitcher Jon Warden will be on the dais when Pete Rose comes to town to be roasted.

“These four should add a lot of character and spice to the roast,” Freedom general manager Josh Anderson said. “It’s going to be a really fun event and there might another name or two that gets added to this list.”

‘The Roast’ will take place prior to the Freedom playing the Windy City ThunderBolts on Sept. 3. For those participating in the VIP Meet ‘n Greet, gates open at 3:15 p.m. Gates will open for all fans at 4:30 p.m. ‘The Roast’ is scheduled for 5:20 – 6:10 p.m. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

“If you’re a Cincinnati baseball fan, this is the kind of event you don’t want to miss,” Anderson said. “Pete was here last year and couldn’t have been better with our fans. We knew we needed to bring him back.”

In addition to the roast, Rose will coach first and third base, be the ceremonial lead-off man for the Freedom in the bottom of the first inning and be available for fans to purchase photos and autographs with the Hit King on the concourse later in the game.

Fans have the opportunity to sit on the field during the roast by purchasing a special VIP Meet ‘n Greet package.
