Boone County resident Adam Howard, a member of St. Timothy Parish in Union, is in Philadelphia this weekend with his wife Annette, and two of their five children, attending events related to Pope Francis’ visit.

The family attended the Pontiff’s visit to the Festival of Families on Benjamin Franklin Parkway Saturday evening. Howard provides captioned photos of Saturday’s activities for Trib readers below.

Sunday afternoon, the Howards will attend a Papal Mass for the conclusion of the World Meeting of Families before returning to Northern Kentucky Monday.

Howard will also contribute a recap of weekend activities upon his return.

The streets were covered with pedestrians in anticipation of the Papal Visit this weekend. Cars were forbidden for several city blocks from the train station to the places where all the festivities took place. Street vendors selling sandwiches, drinks and souvenirs lined the streets offering Vatican Flags, Pope t-shirts and my personal favorite, a silk-screened canvas bag sold as the “Pope Tote.”

People were clamoring for space to get a glimpse of Pope Francis when he traveled by during the parade. These people were staked out hours before the Pontiff eventually drove by.
