Denison deals Thomas More men first soccer defeat of the season; Saints women top Aurora


The Thomas More College men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday as it fell 1-0 to Denison University in a non-conference match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 3-1 and with the win, the Big Red improve to 4-0.

Denison scored the lone goal of the match early in the second half when Kennedy Kommor scored unassisted at the 48:37 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) suffered his first loss in goal as he played all 90 minutes and allowed one goal, while recording four saves.

Denison out-shot Thomas More, 11-8, but the Saints had a 6-5 advantage in shots on-goal. The Saints also won the battle of corner kicks, 5-3.

Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (September 17) when it hosts in-state rival Centre College at 4:30 p.m. at BB&T Field.

No. 8 Thomas More women get win

The eighth-ranked Thomas More College women’s soccer team defeated 13th-ranked Aurora (Ill.) University 1-0 Sunday in a non-conference match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 3-0-1 and with the loss, the Spartans fall to 3-2.

Sophomore forward Julia Flagg-Echols (Colerain, Ohio/Colerain) scored the lone goal of the match at the 65:10 mark off an assist from senior forward Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic).

Junior goalkeeper Megan Barton (Florence, Ky./Villa Madonna) earned his fourth shutout of the season as she played all 90 minutes of the match and faced only three shots.

Thomas More out-shot Aurora, 17-3, including 9-0 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 9-1.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hanover, Indiana to play traditional rival Hanover College at 5 p.m.
