The Brossart football team that did not win a Class 2A district game over the last four years broke that streak Friday with a 27-20 come-from-behind victory over Nicholas County in the first game between members of a new Class 1A district.
Nicholas County scored a touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 20-14 halftime lead, but the visitors turned the ball over on fumbles three times in the second half. That opened the door for Brossart’s comeback led by senior quarterback Craig Pfefferman. He scored rushing touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to give the unbeaten Mustangs their fifth consecutive victory.
Brossart’s offensive attack was led by Frank Cetrulo, who had 103 rushing yards on 10 carries and one TD. Pfefferman finished with 72 yards on 12 carries and three TDs.
The Mustangs are tied with Paris for first place in the five-team Class 1A district. Paris defeated Berea in another district game on Friday. The other team in the district is Bracken County.
