There are well-paying, challenging jobs going unfilled in Northern Kentucky as the region’s advanced manufacturing sector expands.
The area’s public education institutions, including high schools, Gateway Community & Technical College, and Northern Kentucky University, are committed to preparing students for the sector. But public awareness and perception haven’t caught up with the opportunities.
The next Northern Kentucky Forum will provide a guide through the emergence of this sector, providing a deeper understanding of the dynamic changes happening in the local economy.
The free, public event, “Made in NKY: Manufacturers Recruiting for High-Tech Career Pathways,” will be on Sept. 14 at Mazak Corporation in Florence.
“The public perception of a ‘factory job’ is stuck in 20th Century stereotype. The 21st Century factory job is higher tech, higher skilled and higher paying,” said Carla Landon, chair of the Northern Kentucky Forum. “Our panelists will give you a greater sense of this exciting change in the workforce and how it is playing out in our region.”
Last summer, a coalition of industry leaders, educators and others launched a campaign titled “I Made it in NKy” to showcase advanced manufacturing opportunities.
The Forum on Sept. 14 will look at that campaign, including how the concepts of design thinking were used to create the campaign. Panelists also will discuss the burgeoning demand for advanced manufacturing employees and how our region is working to meet that demand.
The Forum is a collaboration of Legacy, Skyward and Northern Kentucky University’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement. The partners are committed to community dialogue on public affairs in Northern Kentucky.
