CVG staff pilot-testing new personal vehicle, WHILL, which may be useful for low-mobility consumers

CVG will be pilot testing WHILL, Inc.’s next generation personal vehicle over the next several weeks with airport staff.

It will be the first airport to test the vehicles to evaluate commercial use opportunities.

WHILL, Inc. is a San Francisco based start-up that makes the world’s first personal mobility device to combine the All Directional Wheel technology and 4WD. Founded and designed by former Toyota and Nissan automobile industry experts and engineers, WHILL, Inc. is the first mobility device of its kind.

The airport provides an ideal test environment for technology developers in a large consumer-based setting.

Airport staff contacted WHILL, Inc. about their personal mobility device and its positive addition to the airport experience. CVG’s interests include enhanced service offerings, ease of travel around the airport, and continued engagement with innovative technology to address social issues such as aging and low-mobility consumers in the airport ecosystem.

“We are excited about the potential that WHILL, Inc. brings to personal mobility in an airport just as consumers have come to expect when shopping in a retail environment,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. “First movers of technology provide the basis for future development. Pilot tests with products like WHILL, Inc. give CVG and our tech-collaborators incredible opportunities to jointly innovate potential game-changes to the overall airport customer experience.”
