Friday Football Roundup: Brossart beats Pendleton County; Simon Kenton stays undefeated

Bishop Brossart capped off a 9-1 regular season with a 39-12 win against Pendleton County behind the strength of Frank Cetrulo and Craig Pfefferman.

Cetrulo ran 11 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns, adding 30 receiving yards as well, while Pfefferman threw for 254 yards on 12-of-20 passing and two scores.

The Mustangs will take on Raceland at home in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

SIMON KENTON 44, SCOTT 13

Simon Kenton finishes the regular season with an undefeated 10-0 record, handing Scott their second loss of the season.

The Pioneers were powered to victory by five rushing touchdowns, including two each from Dillon Powell and Will Parks. Quarterback Cam Racke threw for 156 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a score.

Simon Kenton will take on Butler at home in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, while Scott takes on Rowan County at home in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs next week.

HOLY CROSS 46, BELLEVUE 13

Holy Cross ended their regular season on a high note, tallying their second-highest scoring output of the season in a win over Bellevue. With this win, Holy Cross will take on Owen County in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Hamilton Scott led the way for the Indians, throwing for 117 yards and a touchdown to go with 66 yards on the ground. Derrick Barnes had a monster game, rushing the ball 10 times for 206 yards and three scores.

Bellevue will take on Frankfort next week in the Class 1A playoffs.

SCOTT COUNTY 56, COVINGTON CATHOLIC 35

Scott County proved to just be too much for a Covington Catholic team that has struggled to win ball games all season.

The Colonels put up a strong effort in keeping with one of the top teams in the state, but failed to make it interesting in the end.

AJ Mayer threw for 252 yards and five touchdowns for Cov Cath, three to Cam Pitzer and two to Ryan McGinness.

Covington Catholic will take on Anderson County in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs next week.

HOLMES 36, NEWPORT 0

The Holmes Bulldogs’ steady stream of touchdowns from start to finish, coupled with shutout caliber defense, allowed them to put Newport away in the final game of the regular season for both teams.

Holmes was led by Andrew Arnold’s 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Desean Brumfield scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air.

The Bulldogs will face Johnson Central in the first round of the playoffs, while Newport will take on Walton-Verona.

CONNER 49, MASON COUNTY 12

After a nail-biter of a game against rival Cooper last week, the Cougars of Conner High School were able to relax early this week, racking up all 49 of their points in the first half against the Royals of Mason County.

The Cougars put up their highest scoring output of the season, behind the strength of quarterback Kyler Padgett, who completed all ten of his passes for 212 yards and five touchdowns, and receiver Isaiah Ebarb’s five catches for 108 yards and four scores.

Conner goes into the first round of the Class 6A playoffs against Campbell County next week.
