Northern Kentucky residents can dispose of unwanted items at recycling and collection events


Northern Kentucky residents will have opportunities to dispose of unwanted items in Florence this weekend. Boone County residents will have additional opportunities to dispose of items next week, during city and county fall clean-up events.

The Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area and the Northern Kentucky Household Hazardous Waste Action Coalition are joining forces to help residents properly dispose of unwanted items.

There will be an opportunity for residents of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties to drop off select items on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UC Health Stadium, 7950 Freedom Way in Florence.

What can you drop off at the event?
Only the following items will be accepted at the event:
• Antifreeze
• Batteries (all types)
• Corrosives/Flammables (fuel, kerosene, etc.)
• E-scraps (computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, cell phones, etc.)
• Ink cartridges/toner
• Light bulbs
• Oil
• Paint (All types – limited to 10 cans per vehicle)
• Paper (documents to be shredded)
• Pesticides (2 gallon/ 2 lbs. only)
• Propane tanks (20 lbs. only)
• Televisions

What is not accepted at the event?
Items that will NOT be accepted include appliances, fertilizer, mercury containing devices, medications or tires. Organizers also have the right to reject any item. Visit the Resource Guide for proper disposal methods of these items.

Is there a cost for dropping off your hazardous items?
The event is FREE to the community

How do I drop off my items?

Load your car, drive to the event and we’ll do the rest! We do our best to keep traffic flowing so we ask that all attendees remain in their vehicles. Volunteers will unload your car for you and sort the items appropriately.
Please note – this event attracts a lot of people! While we work as fast as we can to get people through the line, please anticipate a wait. Thanks in advance for your patience and we appreciate you taking the time to properly dispose of hazardous waste.

Do I need to bring anything other than my items?
To speed up the process, we ask that event attendees bring a completed copy of our registration form. Knowing what you have with you allows us to direct traffic and efficiently sort the items you are bringing. Click here for a copy of the form.

BOONE COUNTY EVENTS

Boone County Fall Clean-Up

Boone County LogoProperly dispose of household items at the Boone County Fall Clean-Up being held October 19 – October 25 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be two sites: one at the Boone County Public Works Department on Maplewood Drive and the other at the Union Pool on Old Union Road. Liquid waste, hazardous waste, paint, dirt and concrete will NOT be accepted. No items from a business will be accepted.
Only four tires per load will be accepted unless you call prior to the clean-up and register. Call Boone County Solid Waste at 859-334-3151 for more information.

City of Florence Fall Clean-Up
The City of Florence Fall Clean-Up will be held October 19 – October 25. Florence residents and business owners can bring items from their own fall cleaning to the Florence Public Services Maintenance Facility located at 7850 Tanners Lane for disposal. The hours of operation for the event will be from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Proof of Florence residency will be required during the Fall Clean-Up Program.

Any large item such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, household furniture, garbage, brush or just general junk is acceptable. The Public Services Department will also accept refrigerators, air conditioning units or other items containing Freon (CFC’s) throughout the year during regular business hours. City of Walton Fall Clean-Up
Properly dispose of household items at the City of Walton’s Fall Clean-Up. The fall clean-up week is October 19 – October 25. Dumpsters will be located at 11 High School Court in Walton. Items such as yard waste, furniture, glass, metals, appliances, plastic, paper, cardboard, etc. will be accepted. Liquids, hazardous waste, paint, dirt or concrete will NOT be accepted.
