St. Henry and Notre Dame won opening round matches with three-game sweeps in the 9th Region volleyball tournament on Monday at Ryle High School.
Notre Dame knocked off Highlands, 25-8, 25-8, 25-11, and St. Henry defeated Ryle, 25-10, 25-22, 25-19, to advance to the semifinals.
Notre Dame and St. Henry will face each other at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the winner moving on to the regional final at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
St. Henry’s leading hitters in the win over Ryle were freshman Maria Tobergte with 12 kills and senior Janelle Tobler with nine.
Junior setter Madison Read had 28 assists and two service aces for the Crusaders. The team’s defensive standouts were Tobergte with 10 digs and senior Kayla Riegler with 8 blocks.
Brossart wins first-round match in 10th Region tournament
Senior outside hitters Emma Verst and Carrie Reinhard led Bishop Brossart to a 25-9, 25-17, 25-12 win over Clark County in the 10th Region volleyball playoffs on Monday.
Verst had 10 kills and Reinhard had seven for the Mustangs with setter Lindsay Leick getting 27 assists. Brossart will play tournament host Harrison County in a semifinal match at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
