Seventh-ranked Saints roll on, post 5-0 Presidents’ Athletic Conference shutout over Waynesburg


The seventh-ranked Thomas More College men’s soccer team defeated Waynesburg University 5-0 Tuesday in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) match at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills.

With the win, the Saints improve to 10-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-10-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More led 1-0 at halftime as junior forward Brian Runyon (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) scored unassisted at the 24:14 mark.

The Saints increased the lead to 2-0 at the 49:30 mark when senior forward Danny Laird (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) scored off a cross from senior forward Austin Juniet (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic).

Juniet extended the lead to 3-0 when he scored at the 53:17 mark. Thomas More made the score 4-0 at the 73:18 mark when freshman forward Patrick Louis (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored of an assist from sophomore forward Sam Lewis (Stawell, England/Crispin School).

The Saints closed out the scoring at the 85:32 when senior forward Bruce Berkay (Lexington, Ky./Paul Dunbar) scored off a cross from freshman midfielder Suli Kayed (Union, Ky./Ryle) for the final score of 5-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeff Paulin (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) played the first 45 minutes and recorded one save, while senior Collin Hartke (Warsaw, Ky./Gallatin County) played the final 45 minutes and had one save.

Thomas More out-shot Waynesburg, 29-2, including 17-2 on-goal and won the battle of corner kicks, 11-1.

The Saints are idle until next Monday when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to play Thiel College at 4 p.m.
