COV200, the volunteer group behind Covington’s bicentennial celebration, invites the Covington community to assist with the creation of a community photo album to be placed in Covington’s bicentennial time capsule.

“When we asked the community to share their ideas with us about what should go in the time capsule, one of the suggestions we received multiple times was to include photos of Covington residents, businesses, and homes,” said Dave Schroeder, Executive Director of the Kenton County Library and co-chair of the Bicentennial Time Capsule Committee. “We think including a photo album in the time capsule is a great way to give future generations the opportunity to see what Covington looked like from the perspective of their predecessors.”
Individuals interested in submitting a photo can do so by mailing or dropping their photo submission off at the Kenton County Library’s Covington Branch (512 Scott Boulevard) – Attention: Bicentennial Time Capsule Committee. All photos should be from the year 2015, Covington’s bicentennial year, and should include a brief description. Photos should be printed, no larger than 4″x6″. In order to include as many members of the community as possible, organizers are limiting submissions to one per Covington address.
Entries will be accepted October 30 – December 31, 2015. In addition to being placed in the time capsule, all photographs will have digital versions uploaded to the Kenton County Library’s online Faces and Places photograph database.
The COV200 Bicentennial Time Capsule will be housed at The Hellmann Creative Center, located on 12th Street/Martin Luther King Boulevard. Once sealed, the time capsule will be placed on display for public viewing and will remain unopened until Covington’s 300th birthday in 2115. Planning is currently underway for a time capsule sealing ceremony. Details to be announced in the coming months.
Funding for the COV200 Time Capsule is made possible through one of The Center for Great Neighborhood’s Creative Community Grants.
