Tuesday, November 17, 5:30 a.m. KETKy
Thursday, November 19, 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. KET3 and 12:30 a.m. on KET
Saturday, November 21, 3 p.m. KETKy and
Friday, November 27, 10 p.m., KETKy

“We are excited about a quality program that will help the rest of the state understand just how special Northern Kentucky is,” said Judy Clabes, editor and publisher of the NKyTribune and executive producer of Inside Northern Kentucky. “We have assembled a great team of storytellers, professional videographers, and producers who share our enthusiasm for telling Northern Kentucky’s stories.”

Clabes and Mark Hansel, managing editor of the NKyTribune, are chief editors of the program; veteran broadcast newswoman Shelly Whitehead (also a former reporter for The Kentucky Post) will serve as field producer; and Kyle Lake of Lexington and his Prosper Media team will coordinate videography and final editing.

Local videographers Ron Lawson and Mark Czarnik helped film the first show; Jacob Clabes provided design services.

“The rest of the state doesn’t know much about Northern Kentucky,” said Hansel. “We mean to change that. We’ll learn more about our neighbors, too.”

Greater Cincinnati International Airport (CVG) and Toyota have signed up as initial season sponsors.

“We are so grateful to CVG and Toyota for providing the resources to get us started,” said Clabes. “We’ve committed to KET that we’ll provide monthly programs through 2016, so underwriting support will be important, as it always is to a nonprofit organization.”

The shows will be “news magazine” style features and news, with four to five story segments and interesting sidebars about the three-county region.

The inaugural Inside Northern Kentucky has special features on Southbank Partners and the Newport renaissance; Tim Hanner’s Navigo Scholars — with interviews of students and mentors in the effort to connect high school students with their future; architect and national renowned luthier Harry Sparks and his special talent for repairing the fine instruments of some of the country’s top musicians; and a fun story about the under-appreciated paw-paw which is growing in popularity in NKy as a cash crop. Who knew?

The pawpaw -- It may be ugly but it's gaining in popularity. Pawpaw wine? Pawpaw ice cream?

Jack Moreland of Southbank Partners is a “star” in the first show and is hosting a preview party Friday at Southbank’s headquarters at the World Peace Bell from 4:30- 7 p.m. Stop by and get take a look.

“We are so pleased to be part of the first Inside Northern Kentucky program,” Moreland said. “It’s just terrific — and just what we need to get Northern Kentucky’s great stories out to the rest of the state. We have a lot going on here.”

The production team is already wrapping up its second show to be aired in December and brainstorming about content for the 2016 programs. Ideas and suggestions are welcome to judy@nkytrib.com.

  1. Great news. Northern Kentucky has had no clearing house for the good things happening here since the Cool Ghoul died and TKR cancelled Nancy James’ show – and now we get “Louisville Life.” Hopefully, “Inside Northern Kentucky” will grow soon to a weekly. Good luck; We’ll be watching.
