An Ohio man has died after a fall from Chimney Top Rock at Red River Gorge, according to the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team.
Timothy Amiot of Batavia is the third fatality at Chimney Top Rock this year. The initial post from Wolf County Search and Rescue (see below) indicates Amiot was 25 years old, but subsequent reports list his age as 28.
Just after 10 a.m. Sunday morning, Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team was dispatched in response to a report of a male subject falling at Chimney Top Rock.
The 25-year-old male subject fell after crossing the railing, and leaping across the crack to the chimney. Upon landing on the chimney, the subject came down hard on his ankle rolling it, which, combined with his momentum, caused him to fall off the end of the chimney and down a 200 ft. cliff.
Unfortunately, the subject died upon impact.
Initially, rescuers accessed the subject by being lowered in from Chimney Top. Responders from Wolfe, Powell, and Menifee Counties responded to the incident, and the subject was carried out of the woods and across the Red River.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
