State Rep. Mike Denham of Maysville announced this morning that he would not seek another term representing the 70th House District.
“This has been an agonizing decision for me, but I can no longer ignore my doctors’ warnings,” Rep. Denham said. “To do so would be a dis-service to the people of the 70th District I represent and my family. The people of Bracken, Fleming, Mason and Robertson counties have afforded me an opportunity of a lifetime, and I will be eternally grateful to them. I want them to know that I pledge to work as hard as I can for them until my term expires.”
House Speaker Greg Stumbo and House Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins said they both understood and respected Rep. Denham’s decision.
“There is no legislator who has more integrity or who fights harder for their constituents,” Speaker Stumbo said. “Mike and the leadership he provides will be deeply missed.”
“Mike’s district and mine are pretty similar, and we’ve had a lot of opportunities to work together on projects over the years,” House Majority Leader Adkins said. “I’m proud to call him a friend. He personifies what it means to be a citizen legislator, and those he serves have been lucky to have him on their side. He will leave some pretty big shoes to fill.”
