Renowned Kentucky musician Ricky Skaggs will be the featured performer at the Inaugural Welcome Party on December 8, at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.
It is a tradition for Frankfort and Franklin County officials, along with the local tourism and convention commission, to welcome the incoming governor and his family to the community. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Kentucky History Center.

Immediately following the welcome ceremony, guests will move to the Kentucky History Center’s beautiful and spacious Cralle Day Garden, where the Bevin-Hampton Inaugural Committee will host a bluegrass celebration featuring Skaggs and several other renowned Kentucky musicians.
“After a day filled with ceremony, we wanted to cap off the evening with a fun, light event for the entire family,” said Kelly Knight, Inaugural Committee Chairwoman. “What better way to celebrate the Commonwealth than with a host of Kentucky musicians performing the very bluegrass and gospel music Kentucky is known for. This will truly be a special event.”
Skaggs, a native of Cordell, is a 14-time Grammy Award winner. His music spans across country, bluegrass and gospel genres. Influenced by fellow Kentuckian Bill Monroe, among others, Skaggs has won a host of awards, including three Dove Awards and multiple country music awards.
He made his Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of seven, and was inducted as a member in 1982. He will perform with Larry Cordle, Don Rigsby and the Nashville Bluegrass Band.
“I’m so happy to see that the people of my home state have chosen a man like Matt Bevin to lead with principle and honor,” said Skaggs. “I’m happy to be able to be part of the celebration that will begin this change.”
Also performing at the event will be Timber and Nails, a bluegrass and gospel quartet from Sandy Hook, and Kentucky Mountain Trio, a bluegrass and gospel trio from Somerset, to name a few.
Food will be available for purchase from local food trucks during the celebration. A cash bar will also be available. For more information about the Inaugural events click here .
