Brossart held off a late rally and beat Paris, 54-50, in the championship game of the boys’ 10th Region All “A” Classic on Saturday at Bracken County.
The Mustangs had a 13-point lead with less than four minutes remaining in the game, but Paris came charging back and cut the margin to 52-50 with 14 seconds left on the clock.
That’s when Brossart senior Joey Hackman made a pair of foul shots to clinch the victory and the team took home the regional championship trophy for the 13th time in the last 16 years.
Senior forward Jackson Crawford posted a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds for the Mustangs, who have won eight straight games to lift their record to 14-3.
Brossart advances to the Kentucky All “A” Classic small-school state tournament and will play the 1st Region champion at 8pm on Thursday, January 28th in the Frankfort Convention Center. The 1st Region playoffs are set for this week with the championship game on Jan. 23.
The Brossart girls’ team and Walton-Verona boys’ team both lost in All “A” Classic regional finals on Saturday.
Bracken County defeated Brossart, 48-39, in the 10th Region girls’ title game. Owen County whipped Walton-Verona, 61-39, in the 8th Region boys’ final.
Owen County senior forward Carson Williams had 25 points and 16 rebounds in his team’s victory. He signed a letter of intent with Northern Kentucky University head coach John Brannen, whose younger brother, Grant, is head coach at Walton-Verona.
The boys’ 9th Region All “A” Classic begins Monday with three games at Lloyd High School.
