The Brossart boys’ and girls’ basketball teams advanced to the semifinals of the 10th Region All “A” Classic with decisive wins over Robertson County teams on Saturday at Bracken County High School.
In the boys’ game, Brossart senior guard Jacob Zai made seven 3-point goals in the first quarter to spark an early 26-2 run and the Mustangs went on to defeat Robertson County, 63-28, to post their sixth consecutive win.
Zai didn’t see much action after his first quarter scoring blitz and finished with 21 points. Brossart ended up making 14 3-point goal in the game to account for 42 of its 63 points.
The Brossart girls defeated Robertson County, 54-13, in their regional game on Saturday. The Mustangs’ leading scorers were Emily Schultz with 12 points and Maria Seiter with 10. Schultz made all six of her field goal attempts and is now shooting 52.9 percent (108 of 204) overall this season.
Both Brossart teams will play Nicholas County in regional semifinal games on Thursday. The girls’ game is set for 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ game at 7:45 p.m. at Bracken County.
The boys’ and girls’ teams from Silver Grove and Calvary Christian were eliminated in the opening rounds of the 10th Region playoffs on Saturday.
Local teams will be playing in the 9th Region All “A” Classic for girls and the 8th Region All “A” Classic for boys and girls this week. The 9th Region boys’ playoffs will begin on Jan. 18.
