High school basketball teams from Brossart and Walton-Verona have a chance to sweep boys’ and girls’ regional championships in the All “A” Classic small-school playoffs.
Brossart teams won 10th Region boys’ and girls’ semifinal games against Nicholas County on Thursday to advance to the finals. The Walton-Verona boys’ team won an 8th Region semifinal game against Williamstown on Thursday, one day after the Walton-Verona girls semifinal victory.
The girls’ championship game matchups are Walton-Verona vs. Trimble County at 7 p.m. Friday at Owen County and Brossart vs. Bracken County at 6 p.m. Saturday at Bracken County.
Both of the boys’ regional finals will be played on Saturday. Brossart will take on Paris at 8 p.m. at Bracken County. Walton-Verona will meet Owen County at 7 p.m. at Carroll County.
Regional winners receive berths in the Kentucky All “A” Classic state tournaments to be played Jan. 27-31 at the Frankfort Civic Center.
The Brossart girls played good defense in a 38-27 semifinal win over Nicholas County on Thursday. Then Brossart fans watched the boys’ team extend its winning streak to seven games with a 55-28 win victory over Nicholas County.
Walton-Verona defeated Williamstown, 67-46, in the boys’ 8th Region semifinal on Thursday. The Bearcats’ balanced scoring effort was led by senior guard Kyle Kinmon with 17 points and senior center Elliott Brook with 16 points.
