Baby, it’s cold outside, but the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky is open today

While many public buildings are closed for the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) remains open.

Kim Webb, executive director of ESNKY, passed along this message to Trib readers:

It’s cold outside… Thermometer says it 12 degrees but feels like 2. Did you know that in these temperatures, an hour outside can lead to hypothermia?

So where do the homeless go when public buildings are closed on holidays? We open our doors during the day to ensure that no one suffers from exposure outside.
We currently have about 45 guests taking advantage of our warm building. They are having coffee, watching movies, enjoying some snacks, sleeping and hanging out together.

We are the ONLY place open for people today. If you or someone you know is homeless and needs a place to stay warm and are 18, send them our way.

The Shelter is located at 634 Scott Boulevard in Covington.

ESNKY is open every night starting November 1st regardless of temperature. It is a first-come, first-serve shelter. When the temperature is below 32 degrees, the staff makes every attempt to shelter everyone who needs it, with safety being a priority.

The facility shelters anyone regardless of their physical, mental or spiritual state of being. The ESNKY is handicap accessible.
