Col Owens retires from Legal Aid Society

Col Owens has retired as Senior Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio LLC. He has been with the agency since 1985, specializing in policy advocacy work to support clients pursuing economic self-sufficiency through employment and has worked on healthcare, child care, child support, welfare, and education and training issues.

He has been an active advocate of public policy related to health and economic justice. Mr. Owens chaired the Payment Reform Advisory Committee to Gov. Kasich’s Office of Health Transformation and served on the Payment Reform Collaborative of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and on the Board of Directors of Universal Health Care Action Network (UHCAN) of Ohio. He co-chaired the Ohio Family (Healthcare) Coverage Coalition and the Ohio Consumers for Health Coverage Coalition and on the Steering Committees of Advocates for Ohio’s Future and One Ohio Now. He serves on the Public Policy Committee of the United Way of Greater Cincinnati.

He lives in Ft. Mitchell. He is a graduate of Harvard College (B.A. 1969) and Boston University School of Law (J.D. 1977). He studied at the Harvard Divinity School (1969-71).

Dale Silver, Client Services Manager at Covington-based C-Forward, Inc., has become the new president of Rosie Reds, the philanthropic and social organization supporting the Cincinnati Reds.

She succeeds Myra Riefle, after serving as vice president.

She is actively involved in the NKy Chamber, Leadership Northern Kentucky, the Women’s Initiative, the Covington Business Council and the United Way among other community-good organizations.

Karen Cheser on EdLeader21 board

Karen Cheser, Boone County schools chief academic officer/deputy superintendent, has been appointed to the advisory Committee for a national organization.

EdLeader21 is the Professional Learning Community (PLC) for leaders committed to 21st Century education.

Cheser will serve a two-year term.

EdLeader21 will officially celebrate its fifth anniversary this month.

The organization began with 20 members in 2011 and has grown to more than 170 members representing more than three million students.
