The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) is hosting its fourth annual Homeless to Hopeful: Passport to Caring event to increase awareness about the homelessness crisis in Northern Kentucky.
The event will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at the First Church of Christ Student Ministry Building located at 6080 Camp Ernst Rd. from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. In addition to a silent auction, raffle, and door prizes, attendees will meet with individuals who will share their experiences being homeless.
“This is a community education event with a sprinkle of fundraising that is primarily designed to educate the public about the causes of homelessness, who it affects, and the solutions to end it,” said ESNKY Executive Director Kim Webb.
Each attendee will receive a “Passport to Caring,” which will him or her to visit eight different stations where they will obtain insights into homelessness from volunteers and program graduates.
“What people often find out at this event is that these are everyday people who faced some crisis in their lives that made them homeless,” Webb said. “Their stories are often quite moving.”
Adult admission for the event is $16.71, the cost of sheltering an individual for one night. Students may attend without charge if they bring a donated item, such as breakfast cereal, breakfast bars, shaving cream, coffee, or dryer sheets. Tickets can be purchased at www.emergencyshelternky.org and at the door.
ESNKY has already housed 397 adults this winter. This event will help raise funds to ensure that the organization is able to continue and grow its efforts. All proceeds from the event will aid the ESNKY in their mission of providing hope and help for our neighbors.
