Gateway Community and Technical College, Duke Energy, Northern Kentucky TRI-ED and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce will host Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin at multiple events on Friday, Feb. 19.
Gov. Bevin will begin the day at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence. The press conference hosted by Duke Energy and Gateway will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Center for Advanced Manufacturing.
“This is an exciting sign of the innovative transformation of education,” said Dr. Keith Bird, Gateway President/CEO, “and Gateway is proud to be on the cutting edge. The Enhanced Operator Program is a prime representation of industry-led curriculum and program development, and outstanding collaboration between industry and faculty.”
This event will highlight the new Enhanced Operator program developed through the collaborative efforts of the Northern Kentucky Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Development Coalition (AMWDC), Gateway and several leading manufacturers to address industry need for more qualified candidates.
In addition, Duke Energy Ohio & Kentucky President Jim Henning and other Duke management will present $70,000 in Duke Energy Foundation grants for Northern Kentucky workforce development projects tied to the AMWDC’s efforts.
The AMWDC is a collaboration of employers, educators, economic development professionals and workforce development agencies/partners, operating under a collective impact structure and dedicated to addressing occupational shortages in the manufacturing sector by promoting education and training opportunities for job seekers and incumbent workers, and career exposure opportunities for youth.
“We are thrilled for the Governor, who has a keen interest in workforce development and promoting the Commonwealth as a manufacturing hub, to witness first-hand the efforts of our community collaboration under the AMWDC” said Rhonda Whitaker, District Manager, Duke Energy Kentucky and Co-chair of the AMWDC. “Our employer-led Coalition, consisting of several workforce partners and manufacturers, is devising real solutions to address the skills gap and filling the talent pipeline for our critical manufacturing sector in NKY.”
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce will host a Government Forum luncheon at the Holiday Inn, 1717 Airport Exchange Road, Erlanger, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“We’re very happy that Governor Bevin is taking the time to visit us in Northern Kentucky and talk about important issues facing the state,” said Trey Grayson, President/CEO NKY Chamber. “The Governor received broad support from our area in last year’s election, and we are thrilled he is spending time with us during his first public swing through Northern Kentucky since being sworn-in.”
Gov. Bevin will deliver the keynote address discussing his new administration and issues facing the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The NKY Chamber’s Government Forum brings together elected officials, business leaders and community advocates to learn of issues affecting the region, the Commonwealth and the nation.
