Kentucky Symphony annual gala offering Miami Vice: KSO Style; here are some fashion tips . . .

The Kentucky Symphony offers a lift in its Testarossa time machine to experience the flavor, fashion and fun of South Beach circa 1984-89 with Miami Vice: KSO Style

Sometimes in winter, when you can’t get away, you have to generate your own heat and action. The KSO has taken the fashion-setting 1980s crime drama set in Miami as inspiration for the Symphony’s annual gala, and placed it in the Ambassador Room (formerly Cicero’s Dance Club) at the Newport Syndicate.

Miami Vice

A cocktail hour allows guys and gals to flaunt their retro fashion sense and swig some tropical concoctions, while chatting with friends and browsing a killer silent auction. To work off a savory 3-course dinner with wine and sinful dessert, musicians from the KSO Boogie Band will light up the dance floor with hit tunes straight from the series (think Henley, Collins, Frey, Sheila E. and more). This party won’t die early as Q-102’s Mark McFadden will keep the evening going till you say — No más. The band’s complete playlist, evening details and fashion tips are attached).

This is the KSO’s 22nd Gala. Over the years these parties became a hit, while raising much needed support for the KSO’s free educational and family offerings, that reach over 20,000 kids and families each year. Imagine school children never hearing an orchestra, or summers without the traditional monthly Devou concerts. Keeping those thriving in NKY is why you will party like it’s 1986. A live, silent and on-line auction feature trips, sports and entertainment tickets, dining options and much more. Preview and bid on items on-line starting February 10, 2016. The evening’s two raffle drawings includes a trip to Disney Theme Parks (in Orlando) and a $500 Macy’s gift card (winner need not be present to win).

So pull out the linen jacket, RayBans, pastels or animal prints, shoulder pads and big earings, then grab
your “Sharp Dressed Man” or “Caribbean Queen” and live the “Glamorous Life” beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 20th at the Newport Syndicate as you show your date and the KSO that “You Belong to the City.”

Proceeds

The KSO has performed free education concerts for 209 individual regional schools and over 125k students, plus free summer park concerts in Covington’s Devou Park (attended by more than 345,000) for the
last 21 years. Both series of programs are supported by foundations and some generous corporations, but these gifts don’t cover all artistic, production and operating costs for these 8 free performances. The February gala provides the necessary gap funding for these outreach efforts. In many ways the patrons of the “KSO Prom” ensure access to great music and entertainment throughout NKY.
