Roush Times Two: Northern Kentucky senior guard duo grab pair of Player of Week awards


The Northern Kentucky University women’s basketball team picked up a pair of accolades this week, as seniors Courtney Roush and Christine Roush each earned Player of the Week honors for their performance in big road wins for the Norse.

Courtney Roush was named the Horizon League Player of the Week after a career weekend, averaging 21 points and 4.5 rebounds. On Thursday, Courtney Roush scored a career-high 22 points and tied a career high with six rebounds in the win over Cleveland State. The forward went 9-for-13 from the field and 2-for-4 from long range, also dishing out a pair of assists and grabbing two steals.

On Saturday at Youngstown State, the senior went 6-for-9 from the floor and drained all seven of her free-throw attempts to net 20 points in the win. Courtney Roush also grabbed two steals and three rebounds in the game.

Courtney Roush is NKU’s first-ever Horizon League Player of the Week. Molly Glick was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week on Nov. 23.

Christine Roush earned the College Sports Madness Player of the Week award for the Horizon League after averaging 19.5 points per game over the two wins this week. In Thursday’s game at Cleveland State, the senior guard scored a team-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three-point range, and grabbed six rebounds in the win. She followed that with a 13-point effort at Youngstown State, shooting 6-of-8 from the field.

It marked the second-career weekly award for Christine Roush. She was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week during the 2012-13 season.

NKU, now 12-8 overall and 4-5 in Horizon League, embarks on the second half of the League schedule on Thursday, traveling to take on UIC. Tipoff from the UIC Pavilion is set for 8 p.m. Eastern, with the action carried live on ESPN3.
