Join the competition in which teams use recycled scrap metal from River Metals Recycling Newport to create one of a kind sculptures!
Calling all artists and metal workers for The David J. Joseph Company’s (DJJ) Scrap Showdown! Competing teams will collect scrap metal at River Metals Recycling (RMR) Newport on February 20; then have seven weeks to bring their vision to life by creating a sculpture using recycled scrap metal.
Artists will return their finished sculptures to RMR Newport on April 9. All scrap sculptures on display and will be judged during Cincinnati Earth Day celebrations at Sawyer Point on April 16.
Teams consisting of 1-5 people have 2 hours to collect scrap and 7 weeks to create their sculptures.
Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places. A People’s Choice award will also be presented with no cash, but extra bragging rights. All sculptures submitted will become the property of DJJ, to be auctioned off between April 9 and April 20. Any proceeds will be split between the artist, DJJ’s costs, and an earth-friendly charity.
This is a community event! Let your friends and families know they can create sculptures or bid on them. Deadline to submit an application by February 12!
