Marcus Carey: Why Trump’s success? Because angry Americans are tired of being told to stand down

A lot of people have complained about the media’s refusal to report on the tactic of the left to shut down speeches around the country on college campuses and elsewhere if given by anyone with whom they do not agree.

Many people are angry with the media because they see this silence as hiding the fact that this is the same tactic behind the attempts to shut down Trump rallies.

At the same time there is criticism from the right toward some of Trump’s rhetoric such as him saying “If you see a guy getting ready to throw a tomato knock the crap outta him.”

Some people on the right are calling for Trump to “tone it down” trying to see if they can shame him in order to tame him. It’s almost as if they have been influenced by the left’s efforts to silence Trump. But consider this.

Many Americans from all political persuasions have grown very frustrated with being told that they must turn the other cheek as agitators act up, get in their faces, taunt them or engage in civilly disruptive behavior.

They are tired of watching protesters create chaos and then blaming the speeches they disrupt as the problem, ultimately accomplishing their goal of chilling free speech. They are tired of their own party and their own so called “conservative” voices caving in to the the radical left.

They are angered by what seems to be the handcuffing of law enforcement by PC threats of lawsuits and more explosive protests. They are tired of progressives barking in their faces, calling them racists just because they want to secure the borders, arrest criminals and enforce the rule of law.

Millions of Americans are more than ready to “take back their country” and have been for some time now. Many politicians obviously know this because they have been making this promise a campaign slogan for years.

And now those millions of Americans who cheered the politicians promising to put control back in the hands of “the people” are fed up with all talk and no action. They are ready to take their country back by their own hands if necessary.

Bottom line: Americans are angry and tired of being told to to stand down. They are now ready to stand up and fight.

Trump is winning because he connects with those Americans who have just as much of a right to have a candidate speak to their frustrations as the socialists have a right to have Bernie Sanders speak to their frustrations, as the libertarians have a right, as minorities have a right, as fat cats or any other group of like minded people have the right to have someone speak for them.

These Americans understand and revere the First Amendment. They’ve tolerated the left’s use of it for decades and now are demanding that it’s their turn to speak out.

The silent majority of patriotic Americans are asking: how did we get to the point where urinating on our flag, shutting down a rally, inciting a riot, throwing things, defecating on police cars and screaming curse words in the face of a mother with a child is riotously defended as “free speech” yet any candidate for president who calls for an end to this kind of uncivil behavior, calls for enforcement of the rule of law, calls for the defense of American jobs, defense of American borders and defense of American lives from terrorism is so out of place that he deserves to be shouted down and told to stand down?

There is a greater danger in demanding that a candidate needs to “shut up” when he says people oughta knock the hell outta anybody who proposes to throw something at a rally than any danger in the words themselves. Many people are so sick and tired of being told they have to stand and take it right now that with or without that permission millions of Americans are “this close” to taking things into their own hands anyway.

Don’t forget, the “cooler heads”, the establishment types and the people in power at the time had no use for Sam Adams and his brand of political activism which advocated for action by the people. He too was branded as dangerous and subject to arrest for speaking out against being told he must tolerate the intolerable.

It is clear from Trump’s success that we are on the edge of revolution. I only hope the political processes our founders designed to make future revolutions peaceful rather than bloody, work this year.

  1. I always wonder who people are talking about when they say they, “want to take back America.” Whom do they want to take it from? It appears to me that some folks want to return to the good old days, “before America knew it had a race problem” (to quote Reagan here).

Fact of the matter is, the Conservatives love this country — they just hate half the people who live here. All the anger and bitterness coming out of the Trump supporters is directed towards the least powerful — the poor, the immigrants, the single mothers, etc. Picking on the weakest members of our society is sign we’re in trouble.

Remember “United we stand, divided we fall”? Any party that separates the populace into “us” and “them” is doomed to failure. How about we figure out who is trying to tear our nation apart? Who does it truly benefit to keep the people at each other’s throats? Who stands to make the most money? Because, remember, it’s ALWAYS about the money.

    We need unity, not divisiveness.
