The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has begun construction on the KY 20 bridge replacement project over Woolper Creek in Boone County.
Crews will be onsite from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
KYTC District 6 Chief District Engineer Rob Hans said, “The new bridge will be constructed to current standards, which will provide better mobility for all motorists who travel this roadway.”
The new bridge will be a three-span structure, 280 feet long with two 11-foot lanes and five foot shoulders. Hayden Bridge Company, Inc. of Springfield was awarded the low bid contract for $2.9 million.
The current bridge will remain in place while the new span is being constructed. Near the end of the project, KY 20 will be closed to through traffic so that the old structure can be removed and the road can be tied into the new bridge.
Drivers should be cautious and slow down when entering the construction zone.
Project completion is anticipated by the end of June 2017.
