Results of special election to fill four open House seats: three for Democrats, one for Republicans

According to the Secretary of State’s Board of Elections website, the unofficial results of the Tuesday special elections — all results reported — to fill four open seats in the state House of Representatives are:

8th District State Representative:

Walker Wood Thomas (Rep) 2,262 votes; 40.76%
Jeffery R Taylor (Dem) 3.286 votes; 59.24%

54th District State Representative:

Daniel B. Elliott (Rep) 4,275 votes; 58.44%
Bill Noelker (Dem) 3.030 votes; 41.56%

62nd District, State Representative:

Phillip Pratt (Rep) 3210 votes; 48.1%
Chuck Tackett (Dem) 3463 votes; 51.9%

98th District, State Representative:
Tony D. Quillen (Rep) 3.515 votes; 42.6%
Lew Nicholls (Dem) 4,737 votes; 57.4%

Of 125,264 Registered Voters, there were 27,902 ballots cast for a 22.27% voter turnout.

These results mean the Democrats will keep their majority in the state House, giving the 51 votes they need to pass a budget that could rollback most of the Governor’s proposed budget cuts.
