Scott, Campbell County, Simon Kenton advance to regional finals in girls’ basketball

Taylor Jolly was one of four double-figure scorers for Campbell County in a regional semifinal win.

Two Northern Kentucky teams will play in the championship game of the 10th Region girls’ basketball tournament for the first time since 2003 when Scott takes on Campbell County at 7 p.m. Saturday at Campbell County Middle School.

In semifinal games played Friday, Campbell County got past Clark County, 73-71, in overtime and Scott knocked off defending champion Mason County, 63-62.

Clark County outscored Campbell County, 24-17, in the fourth quarter and tied the score, 63-63, on a 3-pointer by Jasmine Flowers in the final second. But the Camels got the first basket in overtime and outscored Clark County, 10-8, in the extra period to get the win.

Campbell County’s leading scorer was sophomore guard Taylor Clos with 23 points. The other Camels who reached double figures were senior guard Taylor Jolly (16), senior guard Kylie Kramer (11) and sophomore guard Mackenzie Schwarber (10).

Sophmore guard Alexis Stapleton scored 19 points to lead Scott to the narrow win over Mason County. Anna Clephane was the Eagles’ other double-figure scorer with 16.

Scott will be making it’s first appearance in the 10th Region final. Campbell County took the 2003 regional title with a win over Brossart and lost in the finals in 2012 and 2013.

SIMON KENTON 70, OWEN COUNTY 38 — Simon Kenton took a 40-19 lead in the first half and coasted to victory in the 8th Region semifinal game at Shelby County.

The Pioneers shot 51.7 percent from the field compared to Owen County’s 35.9 percent. Sophomore guard Ally Niece led Simon Kenton with 23 points, followed by junior center Madi Meier with 19 and eighth-grader Maggi Jones with 11.

Simon Kenton heads to the regional final for the fourth year in a row and plays Trimble County in the title game at 7 p.m. Saturday. Trimble County defeated Walton-Verona, 44-40, in the other regional semifinal game on Friday.
