St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the NFL Alumni Cincinnati chapter have announced a collaboration to create a lasting and positive impact on the community.
The relationship will promote the overall health and wellness of the community through active living, promote the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries, and build community relationships.
Comprised of former National Football League players, coaches and other employees, NFL Alumni is committed to community initiatives under the NFL Alumni Caring for Kids programs.
In addition, the organization is committed to improving the health and wellness of athletes who dedicated their lives to football. It offers a variety of medical, financial and social programs to help members lead healthy, productive and connected lives.
St. Elizabeth is collaborating with NFL Alumni Cincinnati to increase awareness of prevention strategies for youth athletes, as well as bring knowledge of key sports medicine advancements that increase the effectiveness of prevention and treatment options. As one of the first sports medicine programs formed more than 25 years ago, St. Elizabeth is a regional leader in the field.
The focus has increasingly moved toward identifying prevention strategies for younger children and high school athletes to sustain the performance required of competitive sports while protecting their health so that they can enjoy their lives for years to come.
“St. Elizabeth strives to explore new programs and extensions of existing programs that target health prevention and treatment services for athletes of all ages,” said Garren Colvin, St. Elizabeth President and CEO.
“I have been impressed with the quality of the St. Elizabeth sports medicine program and the strong sense of mission that St. Elizabeth exhibits,” said Jim Breech, former Cincinnati Bengals kicker and President of NFL Alumni Cincinnati. “NFL Alumni Cincinnati and I look forward to working with St. Elizabeth.”
One of the first opportunities to showcase this new partnership will be the St. Elizabeth Hospice Memorial 5K Walk/Run (formerly the Strides for Stars 5K) on Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m.
Breech will officially “kick off” the event. St. Elizabeth Hospice has created this memorial walk/run to instill a community atmosphere of support and celebrate those who made a difference in so many lives. Anyone who has lost a loved one, not just in hospice care, is encouraged to participate in honor of their loved ones memory.
Proceeds from this event will benefit St. Elizabeth Hospice programs that impact patient and families such as providing items for direct patient care and patients with end-of-life wishes. It will also support additional needs for the Wish List program, bereavement and grief support services, patient therapy programs, and Footprints pediatric hospice program.
