Kentucky volunteers will team up with the Civil War Trust to help clean and restore 10 landmarks as part of Park Day, a nationwide effort that includes more than 125 historic sites in 29 states.
Thousands of volunteers will gather at sites across the country as Park Day celebrates its twentieth year on Saturday, April 2, 2016. The sites include the Behringer-Crawford Museum in Covington and the James A. Ramage Civil War Museum in Fort Wright.
Volunteers interested in participating in Park Day are encouraged to contact the individual sites listed below. Activities range from raking leaves and hauling trash to painting signs and planting trees.

Starting times vary at each site. Kentucky volunteers may sign up at the following locations:
Battle for the Bridge Historic Preserve, Munfordville, 10:00 a.m.

Activities will include wayside exhibit installation, trail maintenance, grounds work and restoration work.
Battle of Richmond, Richmond, 10:00 a.m.

Activities include a hike to Battery Bates and Combs in Devou Park, in conjunction with the James A. Ramage Civil War Museum in Fort Wright.
Camp Wildcat Civil War Battlefield, London, 9:00 a.m.

Volunteers will pick up trash along the road to Camp Wildcat, remove trash from trails, spread lime and fertilizer on grass around main parking lot, straighten up the fence around main parking lot and paint floors in the bathroom. Light food and drinks will be provided.
Columbus-Belmont State Park, Columbus, 9:00 a.m.

Volunteers will plant flowers, clean interpretive panels and outdoor artifacts, work on trails, clear limbs and pick up trash. Food and drinks will be provided. (Note: This Park Day site is holding its event on Saturday, April 23, 2016.)
Fort Boone Civil War Battle Site, Frankfort, 9:00 a.m.

Volunteers will assist with picking up downed limbs and cleaning along trails and walls. Light food and drinks will be provided.

Volunteers will work on the flower gardens and walkways; this may involve some brush cutting and edging of flower beds. Drinks will be provided.

Volunteers will assist with cleaning up Zollicoffer Park, picking up trash from the roadways and maintaining trails. Light food and drinks will be provided.
Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, Perryville, 8:00 a.m.

Volunteers will be working on split rail and stone fences, as well as general cleanup and trail maintenance. Light food and drinks will be provided.
The Civil War Trust is the largest and most effective nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. Although primarily focused on the protection of Civil War battlefields, through its Campaign 1776 initiative, the Trust also seeks to save the battlefields connected to the Revolutionary War and War of 1812.
