Baseball teams from Highlands and Scott that made it to the final four in last year’s Kentucky state high school playoffs are among the 22 teams participating in the Doc Morris Invitational this week at six sites in Northern Kentucky.
The field includes five pools that have four teams each and one pool that has two teams. One of the teams in Pool B is Highlands, last year’s state runner-up. Pool C includes Scott, a team that made it to the 2015 state semifinals.
Three teams from Ohio and several teams from other regions in Kentucky are also in the field. Each team is guaranteed three games against its pool opponents. There will not be a playoff bracket for pool winners so the invitational will end once pool play is completed.
Admission will be $5 at each site. Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund for local players. In the last two years, the tournament has provided eight $1,000 scholarships.

Thursday — Dixie Heights vs. Highlands, 5:30 p.m.
Friday — Highlands vs. Lexington Catholic, 5:30 p.m.; Dixie Heights vs. Moeller, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday — Moeller vs. Highlands, 11 a.m.; Lexington Catholic vs. Moeller, 1 p.m.; Dixie Heights vs. Lexington Catholic, 3 p.m.
POOL 3 at SIMON KENTON HIGH SCHOOL
Thursday — Simon Kenton vs. Glen Este, 5:30 p.m.
Friday — Simon Kenton vs. Ludlow, 5:30 p.m.; West Jessamine vs. Ludlow, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday — Ludlow vs. Glen Este, 11 a.m.; Glen Este vs. West Jessamine, 1 p.m.; Simon Kenton vs. West Jessamine, 3 p.m.
