The annual Derby party at Historic Dinsmore Homestead is the perfect way to watch the 142nd Run for the Roses if you aren’t going to Churchill Downs. Can’t beat the charming setting, the company — or the great opportunity to raise money for a special, historic treasure.
The special event is the only fundraiser this year for this historic site in Burlington where — in addition to enjoying the races — you can learn what rural life was like in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. The site was purchased in 1839 by James Dinsmore, and he and his family settled there, growing grapes, raising sheep and growing willows for a basketmaking business. The house was completed in 1842. In 1987, the Dinsmore Homestead Foundation purchased the home and approximately 30 acres to preserve it — and a collection of nearly 90,000 pages of family letters, journals and business records in addition to antiques and historic interiors accumulated by five generations of the family.

On Saturday, May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Homestead, including live music by Lagniappe, tours of the house, Kentucky burgoo, Mint Juleps and more great food, and a silent auction.
Go as your favorite celebrity from past or present — costumes and hat contests will be part of the party. Costumes are optional, of course, but encouraged.
Guests will be in a tent, rain or shine, and will see the Derby on TV.
Sponsors are Barbara and Dale Bardes and Bellevue Sand & Gravel.
Tickets are $50 and can be ordered by emailing Cathy Collopy or calling 850.586.6117.
